Pumpkin tutorial

Hy friends! I recently made some pumpkins for my own home, from fabric and I would like to share with you how simple is to make them. I do not reclaim that this is the only way to do them or that my way is good, nor that I invented the way and for sure I am not the only one explaining how to do them..

Buna prieteni!

You will only need a piece of fabric that you like, stuffing, needle and thread, 30-40 cm of black or brown cotton ribbon and a bit of hot glue.. You will start by drawing a circle on your fabric. Bigger the circle is, bigger ti will be your pumpkin. Consider that for a 15 cm diameter pumpkin, you will need a 40 cm diameter circle of fabric.

Then you will start to baste the edges of the fabric, folding the edges about an 1/2 inches. I reccomend you to use very thick thread as you will use it to tie the pumpkin at the end.

After completing the thread circle on the edges, you can start stuffing the pumpkin..

Then tie very well the opening. You will see it still remains a small opening. Don't panic ! I use this opening to put some more stuffing and the same opening it will be used for the handle.

Then start creating the pumpkin's folds using thick thread and pulling hard while you divide the slices.

Now you only have to create the handle. Using the black cotton ribbon, start wraping the ribon using hot glue, like in the above picture. When you have a 6-7 cm handle long, you can secure the ribon edge, aply a big amount of hot glue on the end of the handle and stick the handle in the pumpkin's opening about an inch and hold for several seconds.

There you have your handmade pumpkin. It takes about 15 minutes to make one..
Si iata dovlecelul vostru. Dureaza cam 15 minute sa faci unul...

What do you think? Do you like them? Do you think they are easy to make?
Ce credeti? Va plac? Credeti ca sunt usor de facut?

Hugs, Cristina

  3. Hi! Found you on Savvy Southern Style. I linked up there as well. I have two left hands when it comes to sewing but I will try these. Maybe I have to re-read, but where do you anchor the thicker thread for the folds you make?

    Great project!

Come visit me as well. Love your blog!

    1. Hy Linda! Thank you for your visit. Do you mean when I divide the slices? I use a very long thick thread, I choose a point on the fabric right in the middle of the pumpkin (the other side of the opening), then start to pass the thread from outside through that point, crossing the stuffing in the inside and pulling the needle from the opening. Then get your needle again in the middle point outside and pulling it through the opening and so on.. Form the pumpkin slices with your thread as you cut a pizza slices - first in two halfs, then in quarters and so on until you have the shape you like. Always remember to pull hard the thread...I'll sure visit you soon. Hugs, Cristina
